Sessions are 50 minutes, and within the first few, we will develop a plan together for what would be most helpful for you to work on, and how frequently we'll meet.  Typically, the first and foremost goal is acute symptom relief if this is present.  Also common in the first goal(s) is working towards developing direct and assertive communication of needs and feelings, as well as evaluating where dysfunctional patterns might be most present.  As we continue, I will assess with you whether goals are being met and/or if our direction needs to shift.  Using the clinical modality rooted in a combination of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and systems theories, we will decide together on the best treatment strategies, how often to meet, and when to end therapy.  Ideally, in addition to symptom relief, the general goal for outcomes of treatment include changing and/or eliminating maladaptive and/or problematic behavioral, emotional, and relational patterns.  Through the course of therapeutic work, it is normal for clients to experience variable rates of change as well as ups and downs in emotional states along the way.  Sometimes this can include a sense of plateau or impasse in the work of change, and should this occur, we will revisit and/or revise the initial goals, and work together to get back to movement.

EMDR

If we both decide that EMDR would be a good supplement to the treatment plan, we will take time to prepare for this (according to the rules and protocols of the EMDR Institute).   As EMDR is recommended and tends to work better in 90 minute sessions, we can plan for this if your schedule and availability allows.
